Gabriel was the fianc� of the mythical Acadian heroine,
Evangeline. Separated during the expulsion of the
Acadians from Nova Scotia in 1755, Gabriel and
Evangeline suffered many hardships in their quest
to be reunited. The lovers' tragic story is immortalized
in the epic poem "Evangeline" by Henry Wadsworth
Longfellow. Gabriel's plight is honored by this
soft-ripened goat milk cheese, which is covered in
fine vegetable ash.
